The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR)
The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) program was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from the employee’s military commitment.
The Solution
Blue Rose along with our partners provide Volunteer Support Technicians (VSTs) for every ESGR location to help manage the coordination of volunteers’ work to promote and enhance employer support for military service in the Guard and Reserve. Overall, our VSTs work to gain and maintain support from employers, to increase employer and military outreach missions, to improve ESGR brand awareness to inspire confidence and trust and renew the relevancy of ESGR, and to streamline planning and coordination.
The Result
Supported by our work and the work of our partners, ESGR is helping to ensure that all employers support and value the employment of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States and Territories, increasing the readiness of the Reserve Components of our Armed Forces. In the most recent fiscal years, ESGR volunteers contributed almost 219,000 hours, equating to a $5.4M return on investment. This, coupled with the positive resolution of 1,225 USERRA cases, resulted in $4.67 million cost avoidance, for a total savings of over $10M. We not only ensure employer cooperation with the laws that protect our Service men and women, we go further in building an environment among employers where reserve service is valued. Blue Rose impact is felt directly in the increased readiness levels of the Guard and Reserve units we support.
